QT Player / QT Pro ***?

Hey guys,

I’m sorry but I am really confused about versions of QT. Nowhere on the web have I found a straightforward answer to my question, and it seems to me that is a vital one, so I wonder why it hadn’t been asked (or why it is not easily to be found on the web). Anyway, I hope someone in this forum can finally and definitely shed light:

My system is OSX Yosemite 10.10.5, running on the latest Macbook Pro (2015).

My Quicktime PLAYER version is 10.4 (833.7)

1. First and foremost: In what way are

– “Quicktime Player”

– “Quicktime”, and

– “Quicktime Pro”

related? Are they entirely separate applications? (Like: Can I have a program called “Quicktime Player” with its own icon and a program called “Quicktime (Pro)”, again with its own icon, on my computer?)

2. I remember last year I dove into the issue already but gave up being totally confused. All I know is that I wanted “Quicktime PRO”. I also remember that I could not buy or download “Quicktime Pro” as a discrete application, but that I had to buy a license code (29$) online, which I did, and which someone told me I had to enter into my “Quicktime Player”, and that would somehow render my “Quicktime Player” to “Quicktime Pro”. After entering the code and as I think successful registration of my Quicktime Pro license code, I saw no change. There it still was, my “Quicktime Player”. I remember someone telling me that that would be normal and that there would only be some extra features suddenly available in the menu, namely export formats.

However, that Macbook on which I did this is now gone and I have a new Macbook Pro. So I start the whole issue again. So here is what I want/need:

1. I want the most professional pro pro version of Quicktime, with all the features that application can possibly offer. E.g. , I was wondering if it was possible to actually display SMPTE timecode of a movie while playing it, like Logic can. I was reading about it on the web and people were writing about having that feature in QT. Please don’t ask why or tell me that there are other and better programs out there. I have those, But I just want to solve my personal mystery of the QT player vs QT Pro confusion.

2. If possible, I would like to make use of my already purchased QT Pro license code of last year. However, I don’t know how to access or retrieve it from some online Apple site.

Thank you very much for answering my question.
